This week Dr. Alistair from Vinescapes came to the farm to measure out the exact location of the vineyard. This involved using a GPS locator and a measure to plot the points of the vineyard, much like treasure troves on a map!
Dr. Alistair then marked the spot with a brightly coloured stake, so that when the planting machines come in May, they can plant perfectly straight and accurate lines of vines.
When we first marked out the vineyard, we marked the boundaries by eye. Like most farmers we are used to knowing the exact lie of the land, although time (and Dr. Alistair’s GPS) will tell whether our eyes are straight or not!
