Coping with Lockdown at Lockley Farm 3 Oct 2020

While the Covid-19 pandemic has swept across the globe, farmers have had to press on as usual. We are used to working under all conditions and this was no exception! Since the pandemic first hit we have been busy hay-making, harvesting, ploughing, rolling and drilling.

When the one-hour exercise rule came in, we experienced a rise in the number of footpath users. Knowing that many of these walkers may be new to the paths and that the walks offered a welcome break during lockdown, we decided to come up with a way to share what was happening at the farm. We created a series of signs with a brief note on what was growing or happening in each field. Lest to say they were a huge success with both regulars and new footpath walkers.

We have been delighted with the response and have now made the signs a regular fixture with new signs being produced as the seasons change. We hope that this helps our neighbours feel as connected to the farm as we do, and share in the processes of growing and harvesting the food we all enjoy.
